Andrew Ebakabasi Mbang
Year reported missing: 2007
Andrew Ebakabasi Mbang was the breadwinner in a family of four after a deadbeat father abandoned them. He was the father figure that his little sister Irene looked up to. By 2007, he had finished Technical School where he studied Welding and Fabrication and had moved out of the family house in Port-Harcourt. He had also been promised a job at CISCON by a kind executive who was touched by their story of struggle.
On the 19th of September 2007, while relishing his new found freedom, he was abducted from his home. And like that, the light went out of the lives of his family. He was arrested alongside two other boys his age with no clear charges brought against them. The following day, his mother tried to bail him out but was ordered to return the next day. By the next morning, they were told he had been transferred to the State CID and that was where the horror began. On getting there, she couldn’t find her son and when she returned to the police station where he was initially held, they denied any contact or knowledge of the boys.
Thirteen years later, his family does not know exactly what happened to him. They do not know if he is alive or dead. His sister who was thirteen years old at the time, is now an adult. She is still searching for answers, still hoping.
