Ijegun, Lagos State
When Busayo Owoodun bid her family farewell as she left the house on Saturday August 10, 2019, they never knew it would be the last day of her life. That day, the 30-year-old tailor was killed in her shop in Ijegun by a stray bullet fired by policemen from the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Area ‘M’ Command, idimu.
A statement by the police said Busayo was killed in a crossfire between the police unit and suspected kidnappers in the area.
“A team of policemen from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit attached to the Area M Command, Idimu, tracked some kidnapping suspects to the Ijegun-Isolo road, during which the officers came under attack from members of the deadly gang.
“A stray bullet hit one Busayo Owoodun,” the statement read.
Pregnant before her death, Busayo also left behind three children. Busayo’s husband, Yusuf said her death has put the entire family in distress.
“I don’t think I can ever find another woman like her,” Yusuf said. “She was more than a wife to me. She was more like a sister.”
Heartbroken and in pain, Abosede Taiwo, the deceased’s 56-year-old mother said: “the policemen who killed my only child should have killed me instead. They have taken away my only hope in life.”
