Surulere, Lagos State.

On the 13th of October, Ikechukwu, 55 years old, was driving his boss Samuel Okafor to Illupeju, when they encountered #EndSARS protesters in Surulere. The road was blocked for the protest and all commuters were forced to wait in their cars.

Ikechukwu stepped out of the car and crossed over to the other side of the road to ease himself. He was later found on the floor, bleeding from a bullet wound on his jaw. He died shortly after, despite the attempts of medical personnels to save him.

Although Lagos State Head of Command, Muyiwa Adejobi denied allegations that Ikechukwu was shot by a policeman, the government confirms it. The policeman, whose name has still not been made public, was part of the group of policemen who opened fire on protesters demanding an end to police brutality.

His wife of eleven years, Ngozi, describes Ikechukwu as “A man who didn’t look for anyone’s trouble and was loved by everyone.”

She insists that his killer must be brought to book.
