Babangida Saidu Adam was walking with his little daughter when bullets from a police rifle caught him on Saturday 22nd February 2020, in Naraguta, Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The policemen, in company of soldiers from the Joint Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, were assisting some youths with the demolition of some buildings over a land dispute in the community, when the shooting occurred.
Reports say they were acting on the authority of the University of Jos. “We were standing with Babangida Saidu Adam, he was holding his small child and telling our youth to go back, then the police shot at him by the waist,” Auwal Adam, an eyewitness said.
He was rushed to Plateau Hospital where doctors battled to save him in futility.
Police spokesperson in the state, Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the incident saying: “Actually, one person was confirmed killed.” But no one was ever arrested or prosecuted for the killing.
