On Tuesday, September 15, four friends were returning from a mall in a Toyota Corolla.

Suspected to be internet fraudsters, a vehicle belonging to the police attached to the Osun State Joint Task Force started to pursue the boys until the car ran into an electric pole. One of them, identified as Remi, died instantly while others sustained injuries.

Outraged, dozens of youths in the city started to protest. It was reported that the protesters set ablaze a police patrol van. A resident of the area reported that the police were shooting into the air to escape the mob.
