Solomon Eze sold used shoes and bags at Karmo Second Gate, FCT. On Sunday, the 10th of May 2020, at about 5:30 pm, he went to the market to inspect his stall which had been brought down by rain the night before.

On his way back, he encountered a crowd gathered around two police vans. Four policemen were standing beside the van while two others were dragging another trader, Chukwu into the van. He was a boutique owner.

Being the oldest in the crowd, Solomon attempted to plead with the Police to take Chukwu to the nearby Police Station instead of SARS Headquarters as they were planning when one of the police operatives turned around and shot him. The bullet hit him straight in the eye.

The policemen hurriedly drove off after that. They were operatives of the FCT Anti-One Chance Squad and they frequently carried out random arrests on traders. There usually is no basis for the arrest and the victims are beaten and extorted before being released.

Solomon’s son, Chinonso, rushed to the Karmo Police Station to report the matter and the Commissioner, Bala Ciroma claimed the killer operative had been arrested and was in detention. No names were released.
